Is Egypt Safe to Visit Right Now?
An Honest Answer.

We are asked this question every single day. And we understand why — when you turn on the news and see what is happening in the Middle East, it is natural to wonder whether Egypt is safe to visit.

So here is our honest answer, from people who have a team physically on the ground in Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan every day.

Egypt is not a party to the current conflict.

The war involving Iran, Israel, and the United States is geographically and politically separate from Egypt. Egypt shares a border with Gaza but has not been drawn into the conflict, and Cairo, Luxor, and Aswan are nowhere near that border.

The U.S. State Department currently rates Egypt at Level 2 — Exercise Increased Caution. That is the same rating Egypt has held for years, and it is significantly safer than most of its neighbors, many of which are rated Level 3 or Level 4.

What our team is actually seeing on the ground.

Our team is in Egypt every single day — not just on booking calls. Here is what they are reporting:

Why private touring matters even more right now.

When you travel privately with Ikadolly, you are never navigating anything alone. You have a vetted driver, a dedicated Egyptologist, and our team available to you at all times. If anything changes — in any city, at any site — you know immediately and your plans adjust instantly.

That is the difference between booking a trip and traveling with people who are genuinely invested in your safety and experience.

Our position.

We would never encourage you to travel somewhere we do not genuinely believe is safe. We have family in Egypt. Our team lives there. We would not send our guests somewhere we would not send our own loved ones.

If you have questions about current conditions — for any specific city or site — please reach out to us directly. We will give you a real answer, not a sales pitch.

"Egypt is extraordinary — and we are here to help you experience it with ease and confidence."

Luxor vs. Aswan:
Which Should You Visit First?

This is one of the most common questions we get from guests planning their first Egypt journey. And the honest answer is — it depends on who you are. Here is how we think about it.

Luxor: the world's greatest open-air museum.

Luxor is where Egypt's New Kingdom pharaohs built their greatest monuments. The Edfu Area, Nile Valley, Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, Hatshepsut's mortuary temple — these are sites that stop you in your tracks regardless of how much you think you know about history.

Luxor is best for guests who want to go deep into ancient Egyptian history. It rewards curiosity, and a private Egyptologist here is absolutely essential — there is simply too much to understand without expert guidance.

Aswan: the soul of Upper Egypt.

Aswan is quieter, warmer, and in many ways more intimate. The pace slows. The Nile is at its most beautiful here. Philae Temple, the Nubian Village, a felucca at sunset — Aswan is where Egypt stops feeling like a history lesson and starts feeling like a living, breathing place.

Aswan is best for guests who want cultural immersion and a slower, more sensory experience of Egypt.

Our recommendation.

Almost every Ikadolly journey includes both. A Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan — with stops at Edfu and Kom Ombo along the way — is one of the most extraordinary travel experiences in the world. You do not have to choose.

If your time is genuinely limited and you can only do one, we ask our guests two questions: Do you want to understand Egypt, or do you want to feel it? Luxor is for the former. Aswan is for the latter. Most people, when they hear it that way, realize they want both — and we build accordingly.

Planning Tips

Why Private Touring
Changes Everything in Egypt.

There is a version of Egypt that most travelers never get to see. Not because it is hidden or exclusive — but because they are moving through it in groups, on fixed schedules, surrounded by strangers, and separated from the experience by the sheer logistics of organized tourism.

Private touring is not a luxury upgrade. It is a fundamentally different way of experiencing a place.

You move at your own pace.

In a group tour, you move when the group moves. You leave when the guide says leave. You spend the same amount of time at every site regardless of what moves you. Private touring means you can spend an hour in one chamber of the Edfu Area, Nile Valley if that is what you need. You can leave Karnak early and spend the extra time at a quiet local restaurant your guide has loved for twenty years.

Your guide is actually your guide.

A private Egyptologist is not managing a group — they are managing your experience. They know your interests before you arrive. They adapt their storytelling to what you respond to. They answer your questions without worrying about losing the group. This is the difference between a lecture and a conversation.

The logistics disappear.

Every transfer, every entrance, every reservation is arranged before you arrive. Your driver knows when to be there. Your guide coordinates everything seamlessly. You are never standing in a queue trying to figure out what comes next. You simply arrive, and Egypt unfolds.

You remember it differently.

Our guests consistently tell us the same thing: they expected Egypt to be impressive. They did not expect it to feel personal. That is the difference private touring makes — not just in what you see, but in how it stays with you.

Private Journeys

Tailor Made Egypt Tours Vs.
Luxury Package Deals.

The air in Luxor smells of jasmine and sun-warmed limestone. You sit on the deck of a hand-selected Dahabiya. The Nile flows past with a quiet pulse. A glass of hibiscus tea rests in your hand. This is the Egypt you came to find.

Egypt is a land of layers. To see it properly, you must peel those layers back slowly. Many people arrive here and see only the surface. They follow a rigid schedule. They move in large groups. They see the monuments through the windows of a bus. You deserve something different.

When planning luxury Egypt travel 2026, you will see many options. Most fall into the category of luxury package deals. These look beautiful on a website. They promise five-star hotels and famous sites. But there is a hidden cost to these pre-set plans. That cost is your time, your privacy, and your peace of mind.

The Illusion of Choice in Luxury Packages

A luxury package deal is often a factory product. It is designed to fit as many people as possible into a set frame. You are tethered to a fixed timeline. If you find a quiet corner of the Temple of Philae and wish to stay for another hour, you cannot. The bus is leaving. The group is moving.

In contrast, private Egypt tours are built around your specific rhythm. We do not start with a template. We start with you. Every moment is crafted. Every stop is intentional. This is your Egypt. It should move at your pace.

The Power of a Private Concierge

Private luxury vehicle at the Pyramids at sunset

The difference between a standard tour and a private journey often comes down to the person standing next to you. At Ikadolly Private Journeys, we provide more than a guide. We provide a bridge to the culture. Our licensed Egyptologists are hand-selected for their depth of knowledge and their ability to connect. They do not just recite dates. They tell the stories of the stones.

This level of service extends to every person you meet. Our drivers are vetted and professional. Our airport assistants meet you before you even reach passport control. You simply walk through the chaos and into the calm.

Is Egypt Safe to Travel in 2026?

Safety is the foundation of every bespoke journey. Mohamed's roots are deep in Egyptian soil. His family lives there. His heart is there. We do not rely on distant news reports. We rely on real-time, on-the-ground knowledge.

We use private, unmarked, premium vehicles. We stay in 5-star accommodations that prioritize security. We time your visits to avoid the heaviest crowds. When you travel with us, you are never alone in the logistics. You have 24/7 support.

Beyond the Grand Egyptian Museum

Traveler in the light-filled halls of Karnak Temple

By 2026, the Grand Egyptian Museum will be the centerpiece of many journeys. A bespoke journey approaches these wonders differently. We use premium access tickets and expertly timed visits. We know when the light hits the statues just right. We do not just show you the museum. We design an encounter with history.

The Luxury of Flexibility

The most valuable thing we offer is the ability to change your mind. A luxury package deal is a contract of fixed points. A curated journey is a living thing. Perhaps you wake up in Cairo and feel like a slow breakfast looking at the Pyramids instead of an early start. With a private journey, that is your choice.

No Hidden Frictions

Luxury breakfast with Sphinx view

We believe a private journey should be elegant from start to finish. Our pricing is transparent. We handle the gratuities for site staff and porters. We handle the entrance fees. When you are standing before the Great Pyramid, the last thing you should be thinking about is your wallet.

"A luxury package deal is a map drawn by someone else. A tailor-made journey is a path you walk with a trusted friend."

Why Choose a Tailor Made Path?

When you look back on your time in Egypt, what do you want to remember? Do you want to remember the back of a stranger's head on a tour bus? Or do you want to remember the smell of the desert air at dusk? Egypt in 2026 will be more vibrant than ever. It is the perfect year to see it the right way.

The Nile is waiting for you. The stories are etched in the stone. We are here to help you find them. Whenever you are ready to begin the conversation, we are here to listen.

Why This Eclipse

The greatest eclipse of
the 21st century. Over Egypt.

Astronomers call the 2027 total solar eclipse one of the longest and most spectacular of the century. The path of totality cuts directly over the Nile Valley, passing across Luxor and the West Bank — home to the Edfu Area, Nile Valley, Karnak Temple, and the monuments of the greatest pharaohs who ever lived.

To watch the sky go dark over a civilization that worshipped the sun — that built temples aligned to its light — is not just a natural phenomenon. It is a moment that exists at the intersection of science, history, and the sacred.

Ikadolly has designed a journey worthy of this moment. Eleven nights, four destinations, a exclusive Ikadolly charter dahabeya on the Nile, and a front-row seat to the most extraordinary sky event of our lifetime.

Questions

What you need
to know.

Why only 10 rooms?
Ikadolly accepts only 8 private journeys per month in normal operations, and this eclipse experience is deliberately more limited. We are not a mass-market operator. Every guest on this journey receives genuine personal attention, and that is only possible when the group is small. Ten rooms. That is the commitment.
Is Egypt safe to visit in 2027?
Yes. Egypt currently holds a Level 2 rating from the U.S. State Department — the same rating it has held for years and the safest in the region. Cairo, Luxor, and the Nile Valley are fully open and operating normally. Our team is on the ground every single day. We would never bring guests somewhere we would not bring our own family.
What if the eclipse is cloudy?
Luxor is one of the sunniest cities on earth, with clear skies on over 350 days per year. August is peak dry season in Upper Egypt — cloud cover during the eclipse is extremely unlikely. We have also designed the journey so that even the experience around totality is extraordinary regardless of conditions.
Is the $3,000 deposit refundable?
Deposits are non-refundable. They secure your room, lock in vendor commitments, and allow us to begin planning your experience immediately. We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance at the time of deposit.
When is full payment due?
Full pricing and a complete payment schedule will be provided upon deposit confirmation. We work with you to structure payments in a way that works for your timeline.
